How adaptive are you?

What stress does to the body is mind blowing. You have likely heard of all the ways we can deal with stress, but as Tony Robbins says, “knowledge is not power, action is power.” You can know all you know, but if you are not applying it – what does it matter?

I meet clients on all sorts of levels. I meet clients that have cared for their bodies for years – ate clean, moved, drank water and then get sick. I meet clients that have mistreated their bodies for 90% of their time on earth and they have little to no health issues. These people often feel “they have gotten away” with not caring for their bodies and now it is time.

While I would love to say just drink water, eat nutrients and move your body for perfect health…that is not the truth. That is an element, for sure, and without that proper foundation, anything you try will not ultimately last…but there are deeper elements at play. The ones that I will address today are stress and anxiety. Unmanaged stress will destroy your body. A constant state of anxiety does not allow your systems to function, eventually systems will start to fail. Stress and anxiety actually alters your brain chemistry. If you are thinking, all right – I get it, stress is a big deal.

So, I am one of those people that wash the dishes as I go. I keep a soap dispensing scrubber in the sink so I can stay on top of the dishes. On most days, I just clean each dish as I use them, keeping my sink clear of dirty dishes. Then there are holidays or meal prep days that have many dishes everywhere. The dishes are not cleaned as they are used, they are cleaned when I am done making the food. When I see a sink full of dirty dishes, I think – I still have so much more work to do!! The size of the mess can be very demotivating! I make this analogy towards stress and anxiety.

Yes, there will be days that you can manage each thing that comes your way. And yes, there will be days that you are so overwhelmed you just want to grab a glass of wine and sit down, to shut down. We as humans, are extremely adaptable. We have been adapting to new ways since the beginning of time.
