Dragonflies

I owned my wellness center in Woodbury, MN from 2014-2019. There were many things I was introduced to during this time – and my love of dragonflies is one of them. One day, I was informed that there was a swarm of dragonflies in the back window. A swarm? That is an odd thing to have here – I went to investigate and sure enough, there was the swarm. Interesting? I wonder what that could possibly mean?

So I started to investigate. Dragonflies spiritually represent courage, wisdom and strength. When dragonflies swarm it is often because there is some food for them to enjoy – that wasn’t the case that day. That day was June 9th, my grandfather’s birthday. My grandfather had passed a couple years before, but in all reality his mind had left before his body shut down. I don’t give much attention to the struggle of the last few years of his life, I instead embrace all the wonderful times I had with him and my grandmother. I was raised just 6 miles away from them. We saw them weekly, spent holidays with them and they attended every volleyball, basketball and softball game I played in high school. They were honest, direct and extremely generous. Every summer my grandfather and I would get in at least a round of golf, if not more. For the years I lived in Seattle, an afternoon visit with my grandparents on a trip home was a must. I adored my grandparents and their deaths taught me so much about the other side. I feel their presence. I hear their voices. I ask for their help and clarity. My grandparents were an incredible couple who withstood some of the ugliest storms but continued to love and give. They are love.

I was introduced to energy healings in the first year of having the center. Every single energy healing I had, I was told the presence of my paternal grandparents was extremely strong. I was frequently told -they are here protecting you. They are so proud of you. They love you so much. They support you fully. So to see a swarm of dragonflies on my grandfather’s birthday was for sure a sign from him.

Later that day of the dragonfly swarm, I had a consultation with a new client that had “just found me” on Facebook. This client was from a neighboring town of Hammond, WI – where I grew up and where my grandparents lived the majority of their time together – finishing the last few years of their lives in New Richmond, WI. I had a connection with this new client. Through conversation we realized how many people we had in common – my grandparents included. She was the youngest of ten children and tagged behind her mama pretty close. Her mother and step-father were friends with my grandparents so she knew them well. That day she signed up for all the things I offered, and that addition to my training was a God-send to my business. All on the same day I saw the dragonflies swarm, on my grandpa Ted’s birthday. I know my grandparents brought her to me.

Fast forward a year, my then 8 year old daughter was saving up to buy a dog. After years of begging, she finally broke me down and I said if she paid for it, she could get a dog, however, it had to be a yorkie. I had no desire for a dog, especially one that shed, so that was that. My daughter saved up for this little dog and on September 24th, just 2 days after my birthday, I found one we were going to look at. The dog’s birthday – June 19th, same as my daughter’s…interesting…

A few years later after the dragonflies swarmed for the first time at the studio, I was at a healing event. One of the classes was taught by a lady that can see your guardian angels. I sat in this class with the puppy in my lap as she described my angel. After she was done, I asked if dogs have guardian angels and she said, why of course they do – and that one right there has a guardian angel of a dragonfly. I immediately broke down into tears with no one in the room understanding why. This little pup was a gift from my grandparents too!

A couple summers ago, I was at my favorite aunt’s house. We were chatting and laughing about all things and then this beautiful dragonfly came by – so I began to tell her the stories about dragonflies in my world. She said, stop, I have something to show you. She went to get this beautiful garden plate that had three dragonflies on it. She told me about how my grandpa (her dad) had won it at a golf tournament and gave it to her. She was so happy to receive it as she just loved dragonflies – so happy that my grandma had said, “all the gifts I buy you and the thing he wins gives you this kind of excitement?”

To this day, each and every time I see a dragonfly I think of my grandpa. I spend some time in absolute awe at how beautiful they are and with what grace they fly. The spiritual connections to them is also vast and I would like to share this little story with you :

“Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond. Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever. Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top. When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying. So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed. Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before.

His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life”.
